Pop-up MMR clinics coming to communities

A series of clinics offering the MMR vaccine to all children aged five to 16 will be held across Hull from April 2. Parents and carers can use them to catch up on missed vaccines and ensure their children are protected from measles, as well as mumps and rubella. Measles cases are rising locally and nationally, as vaccine rates have seen a steady decline in recent years.

The clinics will be held in Family Hubs across the city, making them convenient to access for all residents.

Julia Weldon, Director of Health at Hull City Council, said: “We know how difficult it can be to find time to make an appointment and take time out of school or work to get there. Our conversations with parents and carers tell us that most want their children and young people to be vaccinated and that opportunities like this will be really helpful.

“These clinics are taking place throughout the Easter holidays and May half term, when we know parents are more likely to take time off and children will already be off school. We really hope these clinics will be well-attended – measles really can be serious and it’s important to protect against it. The MMR vaccine is the best way to ensure your child is safe.

“We are seeing a rising number of cases and the only way to change that is by making sure you and your family are protected. Vaccines are more effective the more people have them as they stop a virus passing from person to person.

“If these clinic dates don’t work for you, please remember you can always contact your GP to book a vaccine for a child or yourself. While the clinics are only for those aged five to 16, anyone who has missed a vaccine can ask their GP and catch up at any time”.
