Hull City Council’s fleet of 49 waste vehicles have had a rebrand – and they are encouraging residents to love Hull and recycle correctly.
Last month, more than 80 per cent of household waste taken to the council’s three household waste recycling sites was recycled. And over 50 per cent of waste collected by the authority last month was also recycled.
Hull City Council has the best recycling performance of any unitary city council in England for the past three years.
The rebranding reminds residents of how to maximise both the quantity and quality of recycling. No bagged waste, food waste, nappies or textiles should be placed in the blue bin, while the brown bin is for garden and food waste only. No garden and food waste, glass bottles and jars, paper and card or plastic bottles and tubs should be placed in the black bin.
Councillor Anita Harrison, Portfolio Holder for Streetscene, said: “Recycling correctly is good for the environment, your city and your fellow residents too.
“If in doubt, leave it out.”
If you are unsure of where to place an item, check Hull City Council’s website here.
Residents should put bins out by 7am at the boundary of their property and return it as soon as possible after it has been emptied. Bins will be emptied between 7am and 4.30pm. If a bin is missed, residents should contact the council within 48 hours of their collection day.
Each household is also eligible to receive one free bulky item collection per year for up to five large items such as old furniture or large electrical goods etc.
