Hull Culture and Leisure (HCAL) has issued an update on the closure of leisure facilities in the city.
HCAL, which manages leisure facilities owned by Hull City Council, has closed all its sites except parks until further notice to slow the spread of coronavirus.
The decision follows Government advice to reduce social interaction to help stop the transmission of Covid-19.
Here is how Hull leisure facilities such as parks and entertainment venues have been affected.
Parks
All organised events, activities and social gatherings will not go ahead. All buildings are closed including public toilets and the East Park Animal Education Centre. The play areas are not in use or the outdoor gym areas. HCAL is operating a reduced litter removal service. Park visitors are asked to follow national advice from Public Health England and practise social distancing
Leisure centre membership update
All leisure centre memberships have been put on hold due to the closure of centres. All direct debits will also be held, no payments will be taken during the closure period and any upfront memberships will be credited when sites reopen. Any customers who have paid up front will have their memberships held and have the option for a refund. Any customers with questions about their memberships should email marketing@hcandl.co.uk.
Hull City Hall and Hull New Theatre
Cancelled and rearranged events are still being managed as the team operates with an extremely limited capacity, so delays could be seen in processing refunds. Events will be rescheduled where possible, so customers are asked to await a rescheduled date or accept theatre credit on their box office account for a future event rather than request a refund at this stage. Details of rescheduled dates will be published online and via social media in due course.
The box office is closed to the public and not available on the telephone, so customers are asked not to contact the team unless urgent. Tickets for shows on sale and new announcements can be booked here.
Libraries
Hull libraries will not charge fines on any items overdue as a result of the Covid-19 situation. Visitors can renew items online through the HCAL website, where they can also browse the catalogue and reserve items to borrow when libraries reopen. E-books and e-magazines can be found here, while encyclopaedias and business databases can be found here.
Museums
Museums in the city are closed, but Hull City Council’s virtual museum allows online visitors to explore collections from home and discover stories about the past.
HCAL will release updates on its website and social media channels. Follow the latest government advice on coronavirus here.
