Plans to open three new community cycle hubs will start to take shape over the next few months.
Local cycle charity R-evolution have been awarded a contract to provide three community cycle hubs across the city, offering bike libraries, cycle maintenance, training, repairs and guided rides.
The hubs will be staffed with two trained volunteers at each location and will be located within an existing community group.
Each hub will also stock 30 bikes as part of the bike library and will be available to use for day-to-day journeys.
Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for highways and transport at Hull City Council, said: “We want to make cycling accessible for everyone, and these hubs are a vital component in our ambitious journey to make Hull a cycling a city.
“We’re delighted that R-evolution will be leading this project for us, following the success of the cycle hub in Trinity Market and the University of Hull.
“With the ongoing work to improve cycle lanes, we’re aiming to building a transport network that works for everyone whilst improving people’s health and the surrounding environment.”
Cycling not only benefits the local economy, it also supports the local authority’s ambition to encourage more people to use a sustainable form of travel and the Government’s strategy to tackle obesity by encouraging GPs to prescribe cycling as a way to lose weight.
The three locations for the new cycle hubs are yet to be confirmed by R-evolution and Hull City Council.
