Blue Diamond Awards return as National Care Leavers Week expands to a month

Hull City Council hosts its annual Blue Diamond Awards on Thursday 13 November, celebrating the successes and achievements of the city’s young people.

This year, the ceremony lands in the middle of National Care Leavers Month. Previously, National Care Leavers Week took place at the end of October. The week has now moved and expanded to run throughout November.

The council is hosting a series of events for care experienced young people throughout National Care Leavers Month.

These include the annual Care to Dream memorial football match at Tigers Trust Arena. This will feature council staff against young people, on Tuesday 25 November, to remember those who have passed.

The council’s city centre buildings will also be lit up in blue to show support for those in care and care experienced.

Other events include a fitness session at the Vulcan Centre on Tuesday 4 November, A Day in the Life of a Care Leaver at Room 42, Guildhall on Monday 17 November and Go Karting at Hull Adventure on Thursday 27 November.

Cllr Linda Tock, the council’s portfolio holder for children’s services, said: “Extending National Care Leavers Week into a month-long campaign is a wonderful step forward.

“It gives us more time to celebrate the achievements of our care-experienced young people, raise awareness of the challenges they face, and highlights the support available to help them thrive.

“In Hull, we’re proud to stand with our care leavers. Their voices, ambitions and futures matter every single day of the year.”
