Hull City Council has announced that children who live in Hull and are currently receiving free school meals will receive food vouchers worth £15 over the May half-term week.
Around 12,500 families currently receive free school meals in Hull.
These families will be sent a text or an email asking them to choose the supermarket of their choice, and vouchers for their chosen supermarket will then be sent directly to the family so they can provide meals for children while schools are not open.
Hull City Council will be using funding from the Household Support Scheme to help families with the increasing cost of living pressures, and to ensure free school meal provision is continued over the half term.
Parents living in Hull whose children attend schools in the East Riding are also entitled to support if they are in receipt of free school meals, and the council is working with these schools to provide the vouchers to those parents.
