Vision for Hull endorsed by Cabinet

UPDATE: Full Council voted to endorse the Council Plan at a meeting on Thursday 21 November 2024.

Hull City Council’s priorities for the next four years have been set out, as Cabinet members have endorsed the proposed Council Plan.

The Council Plan is the Council’s contribution towards the new Community Plan, which will shape the city for the next decade.

It has been developed based on feedback received from residents and partners, as well as existing local priorities, Council and partner strategies, and regional and national government policies.

The Council Plan for 2024-2028 is just one of those feeding into the Community Plan, which was created in partnership with the people of the city, and is designed to set out a clear vision for Hull for the next 10 years.

The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “It’s important that Hull’s council is one that listens to people and gets the basics right – and this plan will help us make that a reality.

“We want Hull to be fairer, cleaner and safer one step at a time, and this vision is another step in the journey to making that possible.

“From consulting people all year around to delivering on people’s priorities, the Council is keen to make our city a better place to live.”

The Chief Executive of Hull City Council, Matt Jukes, said: “The new Council Plan is about how the Council does its job.

“It puts us firmly at the heart of the community as we lead the work to deliver our shared vision and priorities.

“Working together, as Team Hull, with our residents, businesses, and partners across the public and voluntary sectors, we are passionate about our city, and improving the lives of the people and communities we serve.”

The Community Plan, which the Council Plan feeds into, sets out six ambitions and three commitments.

The six ambitions are:

  1. Safe and welcoming neighbourhoods
  2. A healthier and fairer Hull
  3. Reaching our potential
  4. Economic growth that works for all
  5. Responding to the climate and nature emergency
  6. Our culture, our heritage, our city

The three commitments are:

  1. Engagement of all residents and communities
  2. Strong, united leadership committed to improving outcomes
  3. A focus on inclusion

Senior Councillors approved the Council Plan at a Cabinet meeting on Monday 23 September, and it will now be voted on at a Full Council meeting in November.
