Significant grant funding accepted by Hull City Council is enabling regeneration works at Ennerdale Leisure Centre.
The council has been awarded up to £750,000 from the government’s Swimming Pool Support Fund for energy efficiency improvements to the facility.
These works will increase its environmental performance and financial viability, as well as help to safeguard its long-term future.
This includes upgrading the pool hall windows to triple glazing and purchasing new pool covers.
The council’s cabinet agreed to accept the funding last month, as well as choosing to progress with a Design and Build scheme for wider works at Ennerdale Leisure Centre which includes maintenance repairs to the small pool to allow it to reopen to the public.
Complementing this, the council will commit funds through its capital budget to support, rooftop solar panel installation, planned preventative roof maintenance and the replacement of external doors.
These works which will commence simultaneously later this year to minimise customer disruption and to be completed as soon as possible.
The project fits in with the council’s ethos of promoting healthier lifestyles for its residents, whilst also demonstrating further its commitment to reducing energy consumption.
Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, said: “Ennerdale Leisure Centre is a much-loved facility in Hull, but unfortunately its building fabric is approaching 40-years-old and needs regeneration.
“The council understands the frustrations of residents and visitors surrounding the closure of the small pool, however we are now looking to take action to address this.
“There would be some short-term disruption with these plans, however once completed, Ennerdale Leisure Centre will be fully operational once more for all of its users to enjoy.”
