Children in Hull will be given laptops to support their learning.
About 1,200 laptops are to be distributed by the city’s schools to disadvantaged children who do not have access to electronic devices.
Children who are in care or those who have a social worker will be prioritised, but schools will also give laptops to other families who don’t have them.
A number of 4G wireless routers are also available and families will be given a list of Wifi hotspots close to where they live.
Councillor Peter Clark, portfolio holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children, said: “These laptops are vital to support the city’s most disadvantaged children and will enable home learning, participation in on-line lessons and allow learning outside of school hours.
“We are now all finding a new normal and this includes how children learn and do their work.”
The laptops and routers are funded through the Department for Education in response to the coronavirus pandemic. They will be offered to children through their schools.
