112th Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull installed

The new Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Cheryl Payne, has been installed at a ceremony at the Guildhall today.

Councillor Payne was elected at a Full Council meeting on Thursday 15 May as Lord Mayor for the city for the 2025/2026 civic year.

The installation ceremony took place earlier today in the Council chamber at the Guildhall, where the previous Lord Mayor, Councillor Mark Collinson, handed over the chain.

The new Lord Mayor said: “I am very honoured and privileged yet humbled by being elected to this role by my colleagues at the council.

“Having been Deputy Lord Mayor for the past year and meeting so many people of all ages on behalf of the Lord Mayor, I’ve been given an insight of the year ahead and I hope to carry out these duties to the best of my ability.

“I thank my family, friends and staff for their support over the last year and for what is to come.”

The Lord Mayor’s Consort is Ms Naomi Payne.

The Deputy Lord Mayor for 2025/2026 is Councillor Maria Coward.

The Lord Mayor’s long-standing ceremonial role differs to that of the elected mayor of the recently-formed Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority.
