Hull will be singing next weekend – quite literally – thanks to a massive international choir competition that will see singers from all over the globe landing in Hull to showcase their talents.
The Hull International Choir Competition will feature more than 1,000 participants, from 27 choirs across 10 countries, coming together to compete in choral competitions held in venues across the city.
Not only will there be lots of events popping up all over the city centre, most of them are free!
With so much going on, we thought we’d try to break down what’s going on, and how you can get involved.
The events are split into two sections, Competition and Friendship Concerts, with an additional Gala Concert taking place on Saturday night.
Competition events will see choirs judged as they compete against each other, whereas Friendship Concerts will feature multiple choirs showing off their skills together at various locations throughout the city.
All of the Competition and Friendship Concerts are completely free and you can find out when and where they are taking place below –
On Saturday 29 April there is also a special Gala Concert at Jubilee Central. Four world-class choirs will take the stage to present a melodic evening of eclectic music from around the world. Barnsley Youth Choir, the Cornwall Youth Choir, Vox Aurea from Finland and the Tygerberg Children’s Choir from South Africa will all be performing.
