Approval will be sought for Hull City Council to enter into a formal agreement with the National Health Service (NHS) to deliver a Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Albion Square.
A Notice of Key Decision published states that the request will be made to December’s Cabinet for the council to deliver the CDC on behalf of the NHS through the council’s current contractual arrangements with VINCI Building.
The NHS has a requirement for a CDC in Hull city centre which aims to decrease waiting times and improve patient treatment.
Albion Square has been earmarked as the preferred site since it is a readily available development site with an appointed contractor already in place.
The CDC would also provide both practical and economic benefits due its central location being easily accessible, whilst the additional footfall would support local businesses and the wider city centre economy.
The CDC will be primarily funded through government funding for the NHS to deliver 160 new diagnostic centres across the UK, supported by the council’s capital programme.
To facilitate the proposed CDC construction works, it is planned to partially close the Albion Street Carpark in early 2024.
To mitigate the impact of this partial carpark closure, improvements to nearby Pryme Street Carpark, such as new lighting and signage, are currently taking place.
Parking facilities remain available for patients accessing the Wilberforce Centre.
Nearby carparks including St Stephens, Princes Quay, Prospect Centre and George Street remain available.
Statutory consultation will be undertaken as part of the planning process for the proposed CDC, whilst stakeholder engagement will also take place within the immediate vicinity of the development site.
