Councillor Stephen Brady, Leader, Hull City Council, has written to all residents in Hull about the current health emergency facing the city.
The correspondence comes on the back of confirmation last week that Hull had recorded the highest infection rate in the country. With questions remaining as to whether families can spend Christmas together, Councillor Brady asks everyone to do their utmost to follow health guidelines, to stop the spread, and help others.
He said: “Hull is now in a health emergency and one of the worst places in the country for Covid-19 infection rates. I am writing to every resident in the city, to explain the very real and awful situation we may face, spending the festive season apart from our families and loved ones, unless we can come together now, follow the guidance and significantly drive down infection rates in the next few weeks.
“As things stand, when the national lockdown ends on 2 December the restrictions for Hull are expected to remain severe. This will have very serious implications for all of us, our places of work and our local economy, at what should be one of the most social, busy and happy times of the year.”
The letter reiterates personal guidance measures to all residents as remaining most effective way of protecting themselves and their family and friends from the virus: wash hands frequently, maintain distance from others and to wear a face covering.
