Footpaths across Hull are set to be improved as part of the council’s annual slurry seal programme.
The city-wide footpath improvement programme will upgrade around 19,000m² of footpaths across 18 streets and one park that have been identified as priority areas.
Works will begin on Monday 23 March and are expected to finish by Wednesday 22 April, weather permitting.
The scheme involves a process known as slurry sealing – a simple surface treatment where a thin, protective layer is laid over the footpath.
This helps to enhance the quality of the footpaths – which are now starting to show signs of deterioration – by removing any existing shallow defects, such as potholes and cracking, while sealing up the footpaths to water ingress.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council said: “This scheme will help to improve the condition and safety of Hull’s footpaths for residents, commuters, and visitors, encouraging active travel options.
“By investing in simple but effective treatments like slurry sealing, we can extend the life of our streets and reduce the need for more disruptive repairs in the future.”
Letter drops will be carried out two weeks prior to the works starting on each site. The contractor will also be posting leaflets with more information for residents in the affected areas.
This scheme has been funded by the Highways Capital Programme and the Love Your Neighbourhood Project.
