Love Your Neighbourhood: Footpath improvements announced for Marfleet Lane

Roadworks

Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood initiative continues to enhance the city’s footpaths, with upcoming improvements announced for Marfleet Lane.

Following a recent ‘patch walk’ in the Marfleet area, a section of the eastern footpath on Marfleet Lane has been identified as being in need of repair.

In response, the council will now be carrying out major works to the footpath, which will see both safety and accessibility improvements for local residents.

The improvement works will commence on Monday 26 January and are expected to be completed by Friday 6 February, weather permitting. During this period, the footpath will be closed to pedestrians, with a signed diversion route in place.

Due to the proximity of the flyover, and to allow for the safe operation of the machinery, temporary multi-way traffic lights will be placed at the junction of Burma Drive, Marfleet Lane, and Marfleet Avenue from Wednesday 28 January to Friday 30 January, between 9am and 3pm only.

The existing footpath is in need of repair.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at the council, said: “As well as keeping Hull clean and tidy for our residents, Identifying deteriorated footpaths has become a crucial part of our Love Your Neighbourhood initiative

“The upcoming scheme on Marfleet Lane will build on the footpath improvements already delivered across the city, further enhancing the accessibility of our pedestrian walkways.

“This vital work continues to underscore that Love Your Neighbourhood is not only about caring for the environment and keeping our neighborhoods clean and tidy, but also about making our communities safe and welcoming places to live and work.”

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, added: “It is crucial that we repair and maintain our city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring longevity, so I am pleased to see further improvements being made on Marfleet Lane.

“I appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we undertake these necessary works.”

The scheme will be funded by Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project and carried out by EC Surfacing Limited on behalf of the council.
