Iconic buildings in Hull are to be lit up purple to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
The annual day of remembrance occurs each year on 27 January.
This year has added poignancy as it marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the largest Nazi concentration camp complex at Auschwitz-Birkenau.
It is also 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia.
Hull City Council will join other cities across the UK in illuminating well-known buildings and structures in purple light from dusk on Monday 27 January.
The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “It is absolutely right that we take time to remember the 6 million Jewish people who were murdered during the Holocaust.
“We also commemorate the many others killed through persecution by the Nazis, and those targeted in more recent genocides.
“It’s really important that we continue to challenge hatred in whatever form it occurs, and we send a message that it is much better to come together to create a brighter future for us all.”
Hull City Council last year produced a video to give an insight into the memorial day, and to also help educate children in the city about the Holocaust, which you can see below.
