The Living With Water partnership has received a certificate of excellence at a regional awards.
The flood resilience project on Rosmead Street in east Hull was recognised at the Institute of Chartered Engineers Yorkshire & Humber awards evening in Harrogate.
It received the certificate of excellence accolade in the Smeaton Award for projects under £5 million.
Rosmead Street underwent a transformation in 2023 which saw new frontages on properties and the creation of a permeable road to help manage surface water and increase flood resilience.
The permeable paving is made up of non-porous blocks with spaces between them to allow water to flow through.
Surface water is collected underneath and the water’s flow into the sewers is then controlled to reduce the likelihood of flooding.
Cllr Jack Haines, the council’s portfolio holder for flood management, said: “This a well-deserved accolade for the Rosmead Street project team.
“For the council and Living With Water to work together to complete such a successful project is pleasing, but to receive recognition for it is fantastic.
“Hull has an unwanted history of flooding, but initiatives such as on Rosmead Street will help to change that and provide a more sustainable future for our city.”
Alex Codd, chair to the LWW board and the council’s assistant director for economic development and regeneration, added: “We are proud to be part of the Living with Water partnership, working together to complete such a successful project.
