Essential highway resurfacing will begin on Great Union Street next week.
The work is due to start on Monday 23 May and is expected to last for about four weeks.
During the works, Great Union Street will be closed to traffic in both directions between Clarence Street and the A63 Roger Millward Way.
Motorists will be diverted via Clarence Street, Holderness Road, Mount Pleasant and the A63.
Access for businesses on Tower Street, Citadel Way and St Peter Street will be as follows:
Phase 1 (Clarence Street to Citadel Way): Access to Citadel Way / St Peter Street via A63.
Phase 2 (Citadel Way to A63): Access to Citadel Way / St Peter Street via Clarence Street.
This access may be unavailable for short periods, such as during initial planing and final surfacing of the carriageway.
Pedestrian access will not be affected.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained and bin collections will continue as normal.
Notices will be placed at bus stops detailing how services will be affected.
Ian Cappleman, Team Leader, Major Projects and Infrastructure, said: “This vital work will ensure the highway continues to provide a safe and even surface for traffic.
“While we envisage the works will be completed within four weeks, circumstances outside of our control, such as weather conditions and plant breakdown, could have an impact on the timescale.
“We will do all we can to ensure resident access is maintained. However, there may be times when access is prohibited for short periods of time.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause and thank residents and motorists for their patience.”
CR Reynolds Ltd will be carrying out the work on behalf of Hull City Council.
