Members of the public and key local stakeholders are being encouraged to take part in an early consultation on the replacement of Priory Drive Footbridge.
With the existing footbridge entering the latter stages of its service life, replacement options are being investigated by Hull City Council.
To gain the views of residents, a consultation letter drop has been implemented within a 300-metre radius of the footbridge by the Council’s consulting engineer, Mason Clark Associates.
This consultation is part of a feasibility study in partnership with Network Rail, which looks at the practicalities of the project.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Portfolio Holder for Roads, and Transport, said: “This early consultation is a fantastic opportunity for residents to express their views on the replacement of Priory Drive Footbridge, and I would highly encourage everyone in the area to take part.”
Until a replacement can be constructed, The Council and Mason Clark Associates are working in partnership with Network Rail to temporarily strengthen the footbridge to ensure that it can remain open.
Neil Richardson, Asset Engineer at Network Rail, said: “We really want people in Hull to share their views with Hull City Council on the replacement of this footbridge, as this will allow us to find the most suitable option which meets the needs of the community.
“In the meantime, we are in the process of working with the council to strengthen the existing footbridge to maintain safe access over the railway. I look forward to hearing everyone’s views.”
The footbridge links Priory Drive and Priory Road to Hotham Road and Bricknell Avenue by crossing over the Hull to Scarborough Railway line, forming the only local access for residents of the West to Appleton Primary School, Wyke College, and Kelvin Hall Secondary School.
