The winner of this year’s KS2 James Reckitt Hull Children’s Book Award is Tom Palmer for his book D-Day Dog, published to mark the 75th commemoration of the D-Day landings.
The winner of the award is chosen by Hull’s young people.
Christine Hill, principal librarian at Hull Libraries, said: “The James Reckitt Hull Children’s Book Award began 13 years ago with the aim of fostering a love of reading by introducing young people to new writers and titles they might not normally pick up.
Good morning.
Let’s start Friday with some great news.
The winner of the KS2 James Reckitt Hull Children’s Book Award 2020 has been announced.

“Encouraging young people to share their opinions about books and to engage in a positive debate is a great experience and one we’re extremely proud of.
“While the award would normally be announced at our annual Big Malarkey Festival, this year we had to think differently, and provided digital access to all of the shortlisted titles to enable participants to join in from home, rather than school.
“This would not have been possible without the fantastic support of teachers across the city. We would like to extend a huge thank you to them for making this happen.”
The winner of the KS3 Award will be announced in September.
D-Day Dog is now available to borrow from Hull Libraries via its new Select and Collect service.
