Hull litterbugs ordered to pay over £7,000

Litterbugs in Hull have been ordered to pay more than £7,000 this month. 

After failing to pay fixed penalties for littering, 17 residents in Hull have been ordered to pay fines and costs totaling £7,113 over the last 30 days. 

They each received a criminal record for the littering offences, which took place between September and October last year in the following locations: 

  • Prospect Street 
  • Paragon Street 
  • Anlaby Road 
  • Spring Bank 
  • Brook Street 
  • Boulevard 
  • Beverley Road 
  • Jameson Street 
  • Ferensway  
  • Lois Crescent 
  • Holderness Road 
  • Savile Street 

Keep Britain Tidy says more than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day, which is an estimated street cleaning cost to the taxpayers of more than £1billion a year.  

Littering offences can result in a £100 fixed penalty, reduced to £80 if paid within the early-payment period, or prosecution and a maximum fine of £2,500. 

Anyone issued with a fixed penalty notice for littering in Hull should pay it promptly by calling the Council’s enforcement contractor, LA Support Limited, on 0800 781 6229 or visiting https://fpnpayment.com/Hull

Cllr Julia Conner, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “We urge everyone in Hull to dispose of their rubbish responsibly by taking it home with them, or putting it in the bins provided.”
