Community organisations in Hull are invited to a free event in the Guildhall to learn more about developing local energy projects.

Hull Community Energy Event will explore how communities and community organisations can develop energy projects that deliver direct benefits to local people – from solar panels on single buildings, to projects lowering bills for entire communities, to communities owning their own energy projects

Led by Hull City Council, the day will feature presentations from the North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub and national, regional and local community energy projects and organisations, as well as the opportunity to discuss with organisations involved in delivering and funding community energy projects.

No prior knowledge is needed as the day will include presentations on what community energy is, what it looks like, how to develop a project and funding.

This will be the first step in building a space in Hull where people interested in and delivering community energy projects can come together and learn and support each other.

Cllr Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at the council, said: “This community energy event will bring together residents and local organisations to learn of the opportunities and empowerment community energy brings.

“The council is committed to tackling climate change and one way to do that is to generate our energy locally.

“It’s not just the council which is responsible for this, it is Hull’s residents, businesses and other stakeholders too and this is another step to helping to tackle climate change together.”

Hull Community Energy Event will be begin from 9:30am with tea and coffee at Wednesday 1 April in Hull’s Guildhall.

Presentations will begin from 10am, with Q&A sessions to following ahead of a buffet lunch and afternoon networking until 2:30pm.
