New images have revealed how two historic murals could be preserved and exhibited as part of the £96m Albion Square development.
The Fish Mural and the Sponge Mural, both currently situated on the upper floors of the former BHS Building, will be removed from the site before being returned to form key cultural features in the new Albion Square development.
Councillor Daren Hale, leader of Hull City Council, said: “Through the preservation of these artworks, and of course the iconic Three Ships Mural, Hull’s history and cultural heritage will play an important role in Albion Square. The transformative development will link our rich history with our exciting future.”
The large development in Hull city centre will feature a mixture of residential, office and retail space, as well as a large urban woodland.
The Sponge Mural will be situated to the north of the site at a gateway to the urban woodland.
The Fish Mural will form part of an arcade entrance to the site at the south of the development.
The eco-friendly and environmentally responsible Albion Square project will include solar panels, EV charging points and a bike hub where cyclists will be able to store bikes.
Hull’s iconic Three Ships Mural will also remain and be incorporated into the new development.
The plans will go to Hull City Council’s planning committee for final approval in early 2022.
Demolition of the site is set to begin in early 2022 with construction starting in 2023. The transformative project is set to be completed in 2026.
