The annual Open Exhibition returns to the Ferens Art Gallery this week, featuring over 300 artworks including paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, textiles and film.
Opening tomorrow (Friday 16 October), artworks have been produced by amateur and professional artists, with many hailing from the local area. Some of the pieces will be for sale, offering visitors the opportunity to buy and own a unique piece of art.
The Open artworks were chosen by a panel of specialist judges; Anna Turzynski, Arts Director at Sunny Bank Mills in Leeds, Daniel Watts, a Disability Access Consultant, and local artist Sam Larter.
Alongside the Ferens Open, the Young Artist Open Exhibition will also open, highlighting the works of budding artists aged 15 and under.

The annual exhibition celebrates the creative talent of young people in Hull and the surrounding area. Artworks are submitted by individuals, schools and local community groups.
Kerri Offord, Curator of Art at Ferens Art Gallery, said: “The standard and volume of entries for this year’s Open was incredibly high – which made the job of the judges even more difficult.
“There is such an exciting range of 2D and sculptural works on display in the exhibition. We hope our visitors are inspired to be creative after their visit.
“This year, we have also had an incredible response from young artists age 15 and under for the Young Artist Open exhibition. The range of creativity from young people across the region never ceases to impress me.
“I’d like to thank all the artists, of all ages, who submitted artworks this year.”
Councillor Jackie Dad, deputy leader and portfolio holder for culture, said: “The Open Exhibition is always one of the highlights of the Ferens’ calendar and a reminder of the incredible talent and creativity we have in our region and beyond.
“This year, the panel of judges have selected a diverse range of works, resulting in a captivating exhibition.
“Congratulations to all those who have been selected for the exhibition.”

The Open Exhibition is accompanied by a public programme with visitors having the opportunity to meet the artists for a free 10-minute talk during which you will learn about their working practice as an artist.
