The nominations deadline is approaching for an award that recognises where young people from Hull have shown exceptional bravery.
The Amy Johnson Cup for Courage was created in 1930 by the pioneering Hull-born pilot.
It is awarded to Hull-born children who have displayed courage of the highest order via a single act of bravery.
The winning youngster will receive a prize and will also have their photograph taken with the original cup, which resides at the Guildhall.
Their actions are also recorded in a special roll of honour book, which is also kept at the Guildhall.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Mark Collinson, sits on the Board of Trustees for the prestigious cup.
He said: “The cup is awarded to Hull children who have courageously assisted others or saved others from injury.
“It is a fitting honour for young people who have been truly brave in an urgent situation, and it is right that they are properly recognised.
“The deeds of previous recipients, and of Amy herself, can serve as inspiration to us all.”
Children are eligible to be nominated for the award if they were born in Hull and are 17 or under.
Their single act of bravery needs to have occurred between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024.
It does not necessarily need to have occurred within the city boundaries, though children need to have resided in Hull at the time of the act’s occurrence.
Anyone displaying stunts or reckless actions is not eligible to enter.
The deadline for nominations is 31 January 2025, and entries can be submitted to civic.office@hullcc.gov.uk.
The life and work of Amy Johnson can be further explored by school children via the Amy Johnson Experience at Streetlife Museum.
