Service to be held to remember Hull’s road traffic victims

A service is to be held to remember people who tragically lost their lives over the years on Hull’s roads.

It will take place at St Mary’s Church on Lowgate this Sunday, 17 November, starting at 2:30pm.

The service is part of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which takes place globally on the third Sunday of November each year.

The Day of Remembrance not only honours those involved in road traffic accidents, but also pays tribute to the dedicated emergency services and medical personnel, who deal on a daily basis with the traumatic aftermath of road crashes.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Mark Collinson, will attend the service, where he will read a poem.

He said: “These events can be particularly hard on loved ones because they are sudden, unexpected, arbitrary, and often involve people who are in the prime of life.

“Although this country is one of the safest in the world, this is no consolation for those left behind when tragedy strikes.

“None of us know what fate has in store, but we must do what we can to provide an environment that is as safe as possible.”

In addition, there will be a wreath laid on behalf of the Lord Mayor and Hull City Council at the permanent memorial at the Streetlife Museum.
