Significant regeneration works at Costello Playing Fields are now underway.
The major upgrades will include a purpose-built 3G all-weather pitch with a dedicated changing facility, additional parking and an EV charging point.
The improvements will complement Costello Playing Fields’ existing offer, including the recently reopened running track at Costello Stadium following capital investment.
This will create a state-of-the-art year-round sports provision in west Hull, providing a high-quality facility for community user groups during peak times, such as evenings and weekends.
The 3G pitch and changing facilities will be used by Hull College during the day during term time.
Improvements will benefit the general public, students, sports clubs and park runners on what is currently a site prone to flooding.

Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and customer services at the council, said: “I am delighted that the council is able to start these major improvement works for Costello Playing Fields.
“This project benefits from considerable investment by the council and we’ve taken on board public opinion about the site and incorporated that into our plans.
“To have another state-of-the-art sports facility for the people of Hull, including residents, sports club members and, in particular, its students and young people, is fantastic and I look forward to seeing it once completed.”
Contractor Hull Esteem Consortium Limited will carry out the works which are expected to be completed by autumn 2026.
Whilst all efforts will be made to minimise disruption, public access to the car park will be suspended and the car park closed from time to time, advanced notice will be provided.
