East Hull footpath resurfacing programme due to begin

Hull City Council is set to begin essential footpath resurfacing works across three streets in the east of the city, as part of its ongoing investment in improving the city’s pedestrian routes.

The works will take place on Uxbridge Grove, Gainford Grove and Ridgestone Avenue, focusing on resurfacing and reconstructing deteriorated sections of the footpaths.

Once completed, the upgraded footpaths will offer a smoother, safer, and more accessible surface for all users.

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday 17 November 2025 and are expected to be completed by Tuesday 31 March 2026, weather permitting.

To reduce the impact on residents the work will be carried out in three separate stages on the following dates:

Phase one: Uxbridge Grove – Monday 17 November to Friday 19 December 2025

Phase two: Gainford Grove – Tuesday 6 January to Thursday 29 January 2026

Phase three: Ridgestone Avenue – Tuesday 10 February to Tuesday 31 March 2026

The existing footpaths are in poor condition.

To allow these works to be done safely, they will require footpath closures. However, access will be maintained for residents.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “We are committed to repairing and maintaining the condition of the city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring they remain reliable for everyone who uses them.

“This scheme represents a significant investment in east Hull’s footpath network, enhancing safety, accessibility, and overall quality for residents.

“It will also complement our other ongoing programme in the east Hull area, where 10 footpaths identified by the Love Your Neighbourhood team are also currently undergoing upgrades.”

The scheme will be completed by PBS Construction on behalf of the council.
