How you can show support on World Suicide Prevention Day

People across the world are being asked to support awareness of suicide.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, which is about raising awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.

Globally, each year 800,000 people completing suicide with a further 20 million attempting suicide and it is one of the top 20 causes of death.

There are three key things you can do to support World Suicide Prevention Day watching this short film from the International Association of Suicide Prevention about how we can encourage connections to help a person with suicidal thoughts, lighting a candle near a window at 8pm tonight to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember a lost loved one, and to show support for survivors of suicide, or check out the International Association of Suicide Prevention website to find out more about how you spread awareness of suicide prevention.

Hull City Council is also reminding people that additional support is available.
