Community garden to celebrate 27 years of support for local communities with special Open Day

A thriving community garden in north Hull that has been supporting families for nearly three decades is opening its doors to showcase the vital role it plays in bringing people together and connecting them with nature.

The free event at Rainbow Community Garden, Levisham Close (off Endike Lane), takes place on Monday 21 July. There will be garden tours, plant swap and displays, activities and refreshments.

Local rapper Chiedu Oraka a.k.a. The Black Yorkshireman grew up on nearby 21st Avenue and will be making an appearance on the day– cutting the ribbon to officially open a new garden building.

Brenda Elm, head gardener at Rainbow Community Garden, said: “We’re not just delivering services to people – we’re working with them to create solutions.

“Some of our most committed volunteers have lived experience of the challenges facing our community, and their perspectives directly shape how we operate.”

Established in 1998, Rainbow Community Garden is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation that has been providing accessible green space and community programs in the University Ward for 27 years. The garden offers activities for all ages and backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting families facing disadvantage.
