Hull City Council is supporting a national campaign to encourage more residents aged 66 plus or who are eligible due to disability to access free* bus travel.
The ‘Take the Bus’ campaign highlights how to make the most of concessionary passes, freeing eligible residents from travel costs and unlocking destinations.

The campaign showcases how bus travel can help people enjoy moments in life, whether these are day-to-day or something a little further afield, from connecting with family and friends, socially, to visiting green spaces, the high street and cultural venues.
Latest statistics from the Department for Transport indicate a 36% drop in concessionary bus travel since 2019, sparking the drive to get eligible people out and about for free.
In Hull, around 37,000 residents already hold a concessionary pass.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “As a council, we work closely with our local bus operators to promote the benefits of travelling by bus and highlight how services across the city can help our residents do everything, from their daily commute to catching up with family and friends and enjoying leisure activities.
“Boosting concessionary travel not only supports the wellbeing of older and disabled people, but it also promotes alternative and more sustainable travel choices, such as using the bus, which is good for the environment and helps grow our local economy.
“I would encourage all those who are eligible to make full use of their concessionary pass, whether that be for day-to-day short journeys or as a means to explore the city and all that it has to offer.”
Dave Skepper, interim managing director for Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “We’re pleased to welcome more people back on to our buses, especially customers travelling with free concessionary passes.
“Using the bus is a great way to get around and helps to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in Hull.
“We’re encouraging anyone eligible for a free pass to apply and give the bus a try.”

“From popping to the shops, to seeing friends and family, we’re here to help connect our community in a sustainable way. That’s why we’re encouraging our passengers who may be eligible for a free bus pass to apply and hop on board.”
