children attend a session at Alderman Kneeshaw Park over the summer

Thousands attend more than 1,600 Healthy Holidays activities

Thousands of children and young people enjoyed 1,653 completely free activity sessions over an action packed Healthy Holidays summer. Held across the city, the fun included sports, go-karting, musical theatre, arts and crafts, and so much more.

In addition to activities, there were 11 events including beach days, fun days and two large-scale Play Days. There was also the third annual Zebfest; a festival style event in the city centre, just for 11- to 16-year-olds. Zebfest proved a huge hit, attracting a crowd of 4,500 for music, food, silent disco, clothes swap and more.

Healthy Holidays Hull is a calendar staple for parents, children and young people. It runs throughout the summer, winter and Easter breaks, is open to everyone of school age, and includes a free, nutritious food offer at almost all sessions.

Cllr Linda Tock, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at Hull City Council, said: “The data collected from our summer sessions really demonstrates how valued Healthy Holidays Hull is. They’re not just numbers – they’re thousands of our children and young people having fun, playing sports, learning new skills and getting creative.

“One of the great things about the programme is that it’s for everyone. It’s an opportunity for every family in the city to have fun through the school holidays without having to worry about how much it costs. There are activities across our communities, and with the assurance of food being provided, ensuring they’re truly accessible.

“The extremely varied offer also means there’s something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what they’re into. Summer may already feel a long time ago, but the good news is that Healthy Holidays will be back as usual for the winter break with the exciting timetable local families have come to expect”.
