Impressive new signage has been installed at a popular Hull community centre, which has plans to further expand the activities it offers to local people – including providing a Warm Space.
The Maurice Rawling Community Centre has grown what it can offer in the past 12 months, including new groups using the venue.
Cheerleading and music schemes call it home, while the centre is also available to book for parties.
It’s seen an expansion in its community garden, where local residents have been able to grow fresh food, plants and flowers.
Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for communities, Councillor Ted Dolman, got to see for himself the impressive progress made there during a visit to the Bean Street facility.
He said: “The Maurice Rawling Community Centre is a real hive of activity, and a real credit to those who run and use it.
“I was really pleased to see the new signage, along with the amazing mural on the side of the building painted by Hull College students.

“The community garden was also great to see, and I was happy to hear there are plans to potentially make that even bigger.
“It’s one of 14 fantastic Hull City Council community centres that we have spread across the city.
“The centres offer a range of fun activities, covering all age ranges, so they’re really bringing people together.”
The Maurice Rawling Community Centre will be among Hull City Council sites providing a Warm Space during the colder months, thanks to a Cost of Living Community Grant and in partnership with ReNew Hull.
It will be available every Friday from this week, 7 November, from 10am until 1pm.

Trustee Andy Pea, chair of the centre, said: “Since the new management opened the doors, 2 years ago, Maurice Rawling Community Centre has risen to become a true heartbeat of the neighbourhood — a place where people of all ages come together to learn, create, and belong.
“Its growth reflects the strength of our community: resilient, welcoming, and always looking forward.”
