Packed programme to celebrate young local entrepreneurs for Global Entrepreneurship Week

The Youth Enterprise and Micro Business Team at Hull City Council are delighted to again be offering a packed programme to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021, supported by Hull Culture and Leisure, John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank and Engaging Education.

Global Entrepreneurship Week was founded 13 years ago to celebrate and empower entrepreneurs in every country and community around the world – especially those individuals who face barriers or may have never considered the idea of launching their own start-up. Each November, 10 million people take part in tens of thousands of activities, competitions and events that inspire them to act and provide them with the knowledge, experience and connections they need to succeed.

This year, Hull is running five major activities as well as the Annual Youth Enterprise Awards Celebration. Take a look below at the full programme:

Monday 8 November – GEW Memories Day: this is an opportunity for individuals and schools to win prizes for the best tweet to celebrate Enterprise Skills and Youth Entrepreneurship using the hashtags #GEWHull #GEW2021#GEWMemories in the lead up to Global Entrepreneurship Week. The winners will be announced at our celebration event on Friday 12 November. For more information, visit http://gewhull.squarespace.com/gew-memories.

Resources are available to help spark the imagination – put on your thinking caps and share your cracking ideas! Whatever you create or plan to create, learning about intellectual property will help you get the credit you deserve. Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council, said:

“Global Entrepreneurship Week is all about how small ideas can take root and become viable business plans, with the potential to grow into sustainable companies. Hull City Council hopes to set an aspirational agenda for today’s young people in the city to set up their own businesses, start social enterprises and cooperatives, improve their communities and/or become enterprising students or employees.

The council and its partners are delighted yet again to be part of Global Entrepreneurship Week under the theme of supporting young people and establishing effective partnerships and are very pleased to be to have become #BeAChampion of GEN UK who run the campaign at a national level, as well as still supporting enterprising young people at a local level.”

Marc Ortmans, Chair of GEN UK and GEW UK said:

“This November, the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrates its 13th anniversary. Over that time, Hull has played a significant part in these celebrations and has always demonstrated its commitment to engaging with enterprising young people and sharing good practice with young people across the UK and the rest of the world.

At GEN UK we are delighted to see that this year Hull City Council are not only running events in Hull but have taken up the opportunity to #BeAChampion of the national campaign to promote entrepreneurship during the week and over the next year and I am hugely excited and honoured this year to have become a Vice President of Hull’s John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank.”
