Standard bearers who proudly represent Hull when they carry their flags at events such as Remembrance Sunday are to receive the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber Award.
Twenty standard bearers will be granted with the courtesy title of Honorary Burgess during a reception at the Guildhall this Friday, 7 November, which is 2 days before Hull’s annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph.
The Admiral of the Humber Award is given to existing or former citizens of Hull who bring distinction to the city.
They will have either delivered significant services in their chosen field, or have rendered selfless voluntary public service through charitable or other activities for the benefit of the city and its people.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Cheryl Payne, said: “The standard bearers have an important duty to represent their organisation in an honourable way.
“But beyond that, they are also fantastic representatives of our city, and I am so impressed with their dedication to their role.
“I am so pleased that we are able to recognise them with an Admiral of the Humber Award, particularly in the week that they will proudly carry their flags when we gather to remember the fallen this weekend.”
This year’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony is organised by the Royal British Legion Hull branch and takes place at the Cenotaph this Sunday.
Two minutes of silence will be observed at 11am.
