This week, Hull City Council is partnering the Money and Pensions Service to encourage local people to talk about money. Talk Money Week runs until Friday, with the message that while talking about money can be difficult, starting a conversation can help people find help they didn’t know was available.

Talk Money Week is an annual campaign encouraging people to talk more openly about finances and take steps to improve financial wellbeing. This year’s theme is ‘it all counts’.

Throughout the week the council will be sharing information from local services on both online platforms and community settings. Topics will include managing household bills, accessing benefits, dealing with debt, saving money and finding financial support.

As part of ongoing work to support residents to afford to stay warm through winter, The Warm Homes team will be holding free drop-in sessions in November and December. The team can offer advice and information on keeping homes warm, managing energy costs and available support.

The drop-in sessions will also provide the opportunity to find out more about other local services which can help with financial difficulties.

Warm Homes drop-in sessions:

Wed 25 Nov1pm – 3:30pmOasis Newland Ave (part of the Open House event)
Wed 2 Dec10am – 12pmSt Aidens Community Church – Southcoates Ave
Tue 15 Dec10am – 12:30pmLonsdale Community Centre – Lonsdale St

Cllr Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Talk Money Week is an important chance to highlight the benefit of being open about financial problems, particularly as the cost of living crisis continues. There is a range of support available across the city, and I would encourage residents to take advantage of the information being shared and come along to one of our Warm Homes sessions to speak to the team.

“You don’t need to be experiencing financial difficulty to take part in Talk Money Week. Whether you want to make your money go further, understand what support is available or feel more confident about your finances, a small conversation can be a great first step”.
