A further series of drop-in events is being held in Hull this month to allow people to discuss the type of things they would like to have at their funeral.

It’s the second batch of sessions to be staged as part of Hull City Council’s ‘Get Your Wishes in Order’ campaign, which aims to normalise the process of talking about death.

Residents can pick up a folder which they can fill in to ensure that their loved ones have clear instructions about what should happen when they’re gone.

Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for communities and community safety, Councillor Ted Dolman, said: “The A5 folders aren’t a legal document, but they can provide a simple list of wishes to help plan a funeral service.

“It’s a really useful thing to have that can complement any funeral plan already in place.

“It’s difficult enough as it is when someone dies, so to have this information ready and easily available when you might need to help plan a funeral for someone can take away at least some of the stress involved.”

The ‘Get Your Wishes in Order’ document allows people to write down things like what songs they’d like to be played at their funeral, or their favourite life moments for using in their eulogy.

Visitors to the drop-in sessions can also find out more information about other Bereavement Services projects, including the upcoming works at Northern Cemetery, where repairs are due to take place to the historic Northern Columbarium.

Whilst the folders will be available at the drop-in events taking place, they can also be collected from the receptions at both Chanterlands Crematorium and Priory Woods Cemetery at any time during normal opening hours.
