Hull's Santa Squad

Hull’s Santa Squad boosted by donation from Council

The new school term might just be starting, but Hull’s Santa Squad are already stepping up their work to ensure that no child goes without a Christmas present.

The group are benefitting from a donation from Hull City Council, where £1,000 will go towards the purchase of gifts, toiletries and food items.

Santa Squad, which was set up in 2022, will continue to use Kingswood Parks Primary School as a base for the group’s work even though the four founding children all now attend secondary schools across the city.

The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “The kindness shown by these young people is really impressive, and I know they make a huge difference to many families across our city and surrounding areas.

“They actively fundraise throughout the year to raise money to enable them to help as many families as possible.

“I hope that the donation we are making boosts them, and I also encourage others to donate to the Santa Squad if they can.”

Santa Squad works in partnership with schools, Family Hubs and other organisations across the area to collect toys, clothes, toiletries and food.

Families in need of support are asked to contact their child’s school directly, with requests then being referred to Santa Squad.

Gifts are then shared anonymously back via the schools.

Santa Squad is appealing to local businesses to provide secure donation drop-off points, and is hoping to have them spread across the city.
