Hull City Council has granted conditional approval for a new 48-dwelling Veterans’ Village for ex-servicemen and women in Hull and the East Riding.
The innovative project, led by the Hull 4 Heroes charity, is to be built on a 22-acre site next to Priory Road in Hull, extending into the boundaries of Hull City Council and East Riding Council.
Believed to be the first of its kind in the world, the self-sustaining site has been designed to provide transitional support for ex-service personnel and their families, creating a safe and stable environment to help them adjust to civilian life.
The plans are for 48 homes, training and support facilities and a visitors’ centre for the wider community.

The facility is to feature a horticultural therapy and rehabilitation facility, garden centre and community facilities.
The project has been supported by TV presenter Nick Knowles, star of BBC’s DIY SOS, who was in Hull for the approval of the project.
Councillor Daren Hale, deputy leader of Hull City Council, said: “This is a fantastic and innovative project that we are proud to support, further highlighting the council’s commitment to veterans in the city.
“This facility will provide a tremendous boost to help veterans integrating back into the community, providing not just accommodation but support, advice and employment opportunities.”
