A special service is to be held in Hull to remember those who lost their lives during the city’s air raids.
The service commemorates all civilian lives lost during WWII, and pays tribute to the emergency service personnel, who endured tremendous dangers to bring order to the town during the heavy bombing especially over the tragic events that happened on from 7 – 9 May 1941. Hull suffered 82 major air raid attacks with over 1200 civilian fatalities.
Richard Barker, Hull City Council’s Bereavement Services Manager, said: “This is a chance for us to reflect on the sacrifices made by the people of Hull, and remembering those who lost their lives in such tragic circumstances.
“We encourage members of the public to join us to pay their respects on this day.”
The annual Citizens Air Raid Memorial service is taking place on Monday 9 May, 2pm, at the Memorial Cenotaph, Northern Cemetery, Chanterlands Avenue.
