Thousands of pounds worth of period products have been donated by Hull organisations to help those struggling during lockdown.
Charities, supermarkets, health providers and communities all responded to a request for donations made by The Warren and Hull’s Health and Wellbeing Board Chair.
Councillor Hester Bridges, Hull’s Health and Wellbeing Board Chair and The Warren youth project ran a Period Dignity social media campaign requesting donations of period products.
Asda, Waitrose, the City Health Care Partnership and the city’s residents have all donated period products to The Warren, which is now distributing these to young people who need them. Products are also being distributed across the city by FareShare to help those who are struggling.
Councillor Hester Bridges said: “During lockdown, women have experienced difficulties financially and also accessing products. I am very grateful to the local organisations who have generously supported this campaign. It shows the incredible compassion and community spirit of Hull people and local organisations.
“The need for period dignity for all girls and women has been a growing movement across the city and one which we will continue to build.”
