Work to improve access to the Hull Cenotaph is almost complete.
Contractors are installing a new ramp that will improve access for disabled people and also those with limited mobility.
The Cenotaph is a listed building and the new ramp was designed sympathetically with respect for the existing memorial.
York stone has been used to match the design and layout of the cenotaph.
The ramp will allow access from both sides of the Cenotaph.
The Hull Cenotaph honours those from the city that lost their lives in conflicts from the Boer War onwards, which includes the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.
Councillor Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “The Cenotaph is a place of tremendous importance and significance for so many people, it’s a place where we can go to remember the incredible sacrifice made by those from the city who gave their lives to protect our country and our freedoms.
“By improving access to the Cenotaph we are making it easier for people to honour the brave and selfless sacrifice of so many people.”
The improvement works will be finished early next week.
