Visitors to the Streetlife Museum on Saturday (3 May) are invited to celebrate Polish Heritage Day with free crafts, food and live music making it a fun day for the whole family.
This free family event will include fun outdoor games in the Museums Quarter Gardens, art workshops run by Hull ScrapStore and a concert for children and singing workshop with Qndeluk.
There will also be a chance to try some Polish delicacies including Polish sausages, zapiekanka, donuts and pastries whilst enjoying live music from DJ Thomass and, a musical recital by singer Róża Stefaniszyn.
The event has been organised in partnership with The Irena Sendler Polish School with the recently opened exhibition, Cześć Hull, to my! / Hi Hull, it’s us! – over 100 years of the local Polish community, which the local Polish Saturday school helped co-create along with St Mary’s Polish School, the Consulate of the Republic of Poland, in Beverley, and its Branch for Scientific and Educational Cooperation, in Hull (on the University campus), the University of Hull and its students and the local Polish community.
The exhibition explores Polish traditions, food, dress, and lifestyle that enrich Hull’s cultural landscape and highlights some of the local legends with Polish heritage.
The event takes place at the Streetlife Museum 10am-3pm on Saturday 3 May and entry is free. The exhibition, Cześć Hull, to my! / Hi Hull, it’s us! – over 100 years of the local Polish community can be seen at the museum until Sunday 29 June.
Community curator of social history, Frances Hodson, said: “It is an honour to be able to host Polish Heritage Day celebrations here at the Streetlife Museum. With the help of the local community we have been able to showcase some of Poland’s traditional street food and celebrate Poland’s rich culture through music, games and crafts.”
