Remembering Beverley Road and the Blitz

In March 1941, Hull suffered some of the heaviest raids of the Second World War in the city. Areas around Beverley Road were heavily impacted, including iconic and historic buildings such as the National Picture Theatre.

As part of the Beverley Road Townscape Heritage Scheme, we met Janet Baker, who was living in the Station Inn in 1941. As part of our Beverley Road film series, we spoke to Janet about life in the city during the war and her memories of the Hull Blitz.

The Station Inn has received improvement works as part of the Beverley Road Townscape Heritage Scheme. The scheme is funded by Hull City Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.

The scheme has included repair and restoration grants to local property owners, public realm improvements, and a community engagement programme. The programme includes heritage walks,, work with local schools, and collaborations with community organisations.
