Changes to thousands of waste collection dates will take place at the beginning of October.
Up to 50,000 households will have a different waste collection day as part of an overhaul of the service.
Since 2014 a number of properties have been demolished, whilst other areas of the city have experienced significant growth. The review also takes into account the onset of an earlier rush hour on Fridays which should help improve both efficiency and reliability of the service.
Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for Streetscene, said:
“In order to ensure that the council’s waste collection crews are operating in the most effective away, we have made some changes to your bin collection days.
“Collection dates have been the same for many residents over the last four years, however following a review there is a need to alter the existing schedule so we are able to include brand new housing developments.”
The new waste and recycling packs will be delivered to 120,000 households during the week commencing Monday 24 September.
Cllr Harrison continued:
“We urge residents to open their waste and recycling packs and check their collection dates, as these may have changed.
“The packs also provide important information for residents on how to recycle correctly, which is part of the reason Hull is the top performing city council for recycling in the country.”
Earlier this year, new stickers were stuck on blue bins to help residents understand what materials cannot be recycled. The Bin Smart initiative urges residents not to fill bins with the four most common prohibited items – dirty nappies, clothing, food and bagged waste.
Each household is also eligible to receive one free bulky item collection per year for up to five large items such as old furniture or large electrical goods etc.
