Hull City Council has won Yorkshire’s top planning award.
The council was honoured for its vision in delivering the £310 million Green Port Hull offshore wind hub at the 2018 Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Yorkshire Awards last night.
The award was presented at a reception and keynote address ceremony at Sheffield Town Hall.
The RTPI awards are the longest-established and most respected in the UK planning industry. For more than 40 years, they have celebrated exceptional examples of planning.
Alex Codd, Hull City Council’s City Planning Manager, said: “This award is testament to the hard work carried out by the city council’s planners every day. I am delighted this hard work has been recognised.”
The Green Port Hull offshore wind renewable industry hub, the only one of its kind in England, is already making a huge contribution to addressing climate change, energy needs and economic re-balancing while creating employment.
Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: “The council’s planning team has been and continues to be a vital cog in the incredible transformation seen across the city over the past 18 months. This award is fantastic for both the city and Hull City Council.”
Jennifer Winyard, Chair of RTPI Yorkshire judging panel, said: “This is a prime example where planners play a vital role in securing long-term sustainable economic growth and employment for the region.”
