Major roadworks taking place in Hull next week

Work to improve footpaths and implement new cycle lanes along key routes in Hull will begin from Monday 23 August.

More than 5km of Beverley Road will be revamped as part of plans to create a safer environment for cyclists travelling along this main route into the city.

Work will include new off-road cycle tracks on the north section of Greenwood Avenue up to the city boundary, new and improved signalled pedestrian crossing facilities at Station Drive, Queens Road and Inglemire Lane, low-level signals and early-start facilities for cyclists at key junctions along the route, widening of existing cycle lanes, providing improvements to the road surface and adding green branding to highlight the presence of cyclists to motorists.

And work to improve footpaths in Hessle Road will also begin next week, with the first phase of works starting between the south side of West Dock Avenue and Eton Street, and north side of St George’s Road and Ribble Street.

Hessle Road will see smooth new paving across 4,537m2 of surface area, making it a much more accessible footpath for residents in the area. It will also complement the major road improvements which completed in February earlier this year.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, highways and flood prevention, said: “We have some significant works starting on Monday to improve the city’s roads and pavements.

“As Hull City Council works to fulfil a vision of getting 10,000 people active by 2025, creating a cycling network that connects the city and makes it a realistic transport choice for a greater number of people.

“The proposed schemes will enhance the route choice for cyclists and pedestrians, and ensure they are more visible when using these busy roads.”

And there is still time to have your say in the transport survey which closes on Monday 23 August.

Councillor Kirk said: “We want people who live, visit and travel around the city to share their views on how we develop plans to implement a more sustainable and accessible transport system for everyone, and the feedback you provide in this survey is absolutely critical to this.”

Motorists are advised to plan their journey before travelling using One.Network, and to keep up-to-date with Stoneferry Corridor works download the Hello Travaux app on the App Store on Google Play.
