Major works to improve gas connections in a popular part of the city centre will take place this week.
From 12am on Saturday 17 April, Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will be undertaking essential works to repair a 36 metre long gas main in George Street. As a result, a road closure will be in place in George Street and North Bridge, and a signed diversion route will be in place for road users.
Over the last few days, Hull City Council has been working with NGN to look at alternative solutions but, due to the safety critical nature of these works, they must be undertaken immediately. However, the Council and their partners have reviewed other works currently taking place across the city and other changes will be made to help mitigate the impact and improve the flow of traffic whilst a considerable number of different works are taking place.
In order to accommodate these works, the Council will be suspending roadworks in Woodhall Street as part of the Stoneferry Corridor improvements, until work to the gas pipe is completed. Work to Diadem roundabout to Ganstead roundabout in Holderness Road will also finish at the end of the week, easing traffic in the east of the city.
During the NGN closure, the Council will also use this opportunity to undertake works on North Bridge and improvements to traffic signals in Witham, minimising future disruption.
The work is expected to be completed by Friday 30 April.
