Public toilets in Queen Victoria Square will reopen on Monday 15 June.
The facilities will be open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Sunday, with social distancing notices in place.
Hand sanitisers will be available in both the male and female toilets alongside the usual hand-washing facilities.
Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for street cleaning services at Hull City Council, said: “During these uncertain times we want residents to feel as comfortable as possible when using public facilities, so we are undertaking a deep clean of the Queen Victoria Square toilets this weekend before we open them for public use.
“However we all have a duty of care and need to work together to stay safe, so I’d like to remind residents to take personal responsibility for their actions and respect those around them.”
The toilets will be cleaned continuously throughout the day, followed by a deep clean once the facilities close at 6pm.
The work comes as non-essential shops including department stores and shopping centres prepare to reopen from Monday 15 June.
Hull City Council has been working with partners to introduce social distancing measures and encourage visitors, customers and workers to follow public health advice.
And last month the local authority began a city-wide cleaning scheme to prepare the city for a staggered reopening to the public, following Government guidelines.
Councillor Harrison said: “By cleaning popular areas we are aiming to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and reassuring residents that the council is taking the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the public.”
Multi-storey car parks will also be receiving a deep clean this weekend ahead of the increased number of motorists expected to use them from Monday, when full parking charges will be reintroduced.
