A public vote is being launched for people to have their say on which historic artefacts they would like to see as part of future exhibitions.
From Monday 24 February, items from Hull’s Maritime Museum will go head-to-head in a daily competition in which the public can chose their favourite pieces to form part of the People’s Choice exhibition.
The museum’s curatorial team are counting on the public to help them select 100 items out of the 200, which will include albatross beaks and brass bells, to feature in the new displays at the Hull Maritime Museum.
Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment, regeneration, planning, land and property, said: “As more of the stunning Victorian architecture is revealed, more maritime objects and stories will on display and for some for the very first time.
“The museum has a huge collection of maritime objects and artefacts and its important residents and the wider public can engage with this exciting project.
“This is just one of the many activities taking place to keep the museum fresh in everyone’s minds during its closure.
“We need as many people to get involved and select their favourites!”
As more of the Grade II*-listed Victorian Hull Maritime Museum is opened up, there will be 50 per cent more objects on public display when the museum reopens in late 2023, after an £11m refurbishment.

Councillor Hale said: “Don’t worry if you don’t see your favourite artefacts in the People’s Choice vote. Plans for the new exhibitions and displays are already well underway and many old favourites already have an allocated home.”
